What does Mahj Trainer teach?

The tiles, the card, the Charleston and keep-or-throw calls, in five-minute drills across four rooms. Everything below is free. Mahj+ adds more of it.

Every tile family

Craks, bams, dots, winds, dragons, flowers, and jokers, then quizzes on the rules everyone gets wrong.

Read the card

Learn the sections (2468, Consecutive Run, 13579, Winds and Dragons, 369, Singles and Pairs) and how to spot them fast.

Name the section

See 13 tiles and call the section they're chasing, over and over, until the pattern jumps out.

Pass without panic

Work real deals: choose three tiles to pass, then compare with the coach's pick and the reasoning behind it.

Keep-or-throw calls

When to hold a flower, when to swap for an exposed joker, what an opponent's exposure tells you, which discards are safe.

The why on the back

Swipeable cards that explain the rule instead of just testing it.

A coach for every discard

Thirteen tiles off a real wall. Commit to a section, then draw and discard for twelve turns while the coach grades every throw and shows the arithmetic behind it. No opponents and no bots, so nothing can feel rigged. One free hand a day for everyone.

Look it up mid-game

A searchable glossary and a page for every section of the card, one tap from the home screen. Free for everyone.

More reps per room

An additional practice set in all four rooms, with fresh questions, racks, and deals added through the year.

How it's built.

The Pitch

Most new players learn mah jongg at a weekly game, then have no way to practice until the next one. Lessons fade, the Charleston gets scary, and the card still looks like a wall of numbers.

Mahj Trainer is practice without a table: quick, interactive reps you can run anywhere. Think of it as practicing your serve instead of playing a match. Learn the tiles, learn the card's sections, work through real Charleston deals, and make the keep-or-throw calls that decide hands.

Mahj+

All four rooms are free. Mahj+ adds more: monthly or yearly (both with a 1-week free trial), or a one-time purchase for lifetime access. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and vary by region.

Extra practice sets. A second set of questions, racks, and deals in every room, using drills you already know.

The Master Tables. Advanced Charleston strategy, a defense school, and expert rack reading for players moving past the basics.

What Mattered

The category system. Drills teach the section structure that repeats every year, so practice still counts when the new card arrives.

Original practice hands. Every rack and deal in the app is written for teaching, which keeps it independent of the published card.

Short sessions. Sessions are short enough for a grocery line, because that's when people actually practice.

What's free. The four rooms are complete without paying. Mahj+ adds volume and advanced material; the fundamentals are never locked.

Learn the game first

Free guides, written for new players.

How to play American Mah Jongg: the tiles, the card, a turn, calling, and how a hand is won.

How to read the card: the nine sections that keep the same shape every year.

The Charleston: the order of passes and a simple way to choose three tiles.

Joker rules, scoring and table rules, and a glossary of every term.
