Is there a sobriety app that doesn't wipe out your progress when you slip?
Yes. In Sober: Sobriety Day Counter, logging a slip restarts the day counter, while your bonsai keeps half its growth and your past streaks, longest streak and calendar of sober days all stay. Get Sober on the App Store. Logging a slip is free and needs no account.
Disclosure: Jack Wallner makes Sober. Every detail about Sober below was checked against the app's current build. Other apps are described from their public App Store listings, linked in the sources.
What happens when you log a slip?
| What | After a slip |
|---|---|
| Day counter | Restarts. A slip today starts day 1. For a slip on a past date, the days since then are counted. |
| Bonsai | Keeps half of its growth |
| Past streaks | Stay on your record |
| Longest streak | Kept, worked out from the corrected dates |
| Calendar | Every sober day you counted stays, and the slip day is marked |
The slip screen on Home shows what you keep before you confirm, including how many days of growth the tree carries over.
Why does the counter still restart?
So the number stays honest. The counter shows your current run of alcohol-free days. The garden, the calendar and your past streaks hold the rest of the story.
How do you log a slip?
- On Home, open the More menu (the three dots) and tap I slipped.
- Pick the day and add a note if you want. Any day in your current run works.
- Tap Log it and keep going.
You can also open a day in the calendar, add a mood or note, tap Log a slip and confirm with Log slip.
Logged a slip by mistake?
Open that day in the calendar and tap Change to sober. The counter and the tree go back to how they were. Undo works while it is the most recent slip on your record.
How do other apps handle a slip?
Apps differ, so check each listing. Sober restarts the count and keeps the garden growth, streak history and calendar. For other counters side by side, see I Am Sober alternatives.
Free on the App Store. No account required.
