Is there a sober counter with an Apple Watch app and a lock screen widget?
Yes. Sober: Sobriety Day Counter has an Apple Watch app and three Lock Screen widgets that show your days sober, and all of them are free. Get Sober on the App Store. It also has small and medium Home Screen widgets with your bonsai, and it needs no account.
Disclosure: Jack Wallner makes Sober. Every detail about Sober below was checked against the app's current build. Other apps are described from their public App Store listings, linked in the sources.
Which widgets does Sober have?
| Widget | Where | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Circular | Lock Screen | Your day count |
| Rectangular | Lock Screen | A leaf and "days sober" with your count |
| Inline | Lock Screen, above the clock | Your count as a line of text |
| Small | Home Screen | Your bonsai with the day count |
| Medium | Home Screen | Your bonsai, day count, tree stage and start date |
The widgets count from your start date, so they roll over at midnight even if you have not opened the app.
What does the Apple Watch app show?
Open Sober on your Watch to see your day count, the date you started and your bonsai's current stage. The Watch works the count out from your start date too, so it moves forward each day on its own.
The Watch app is for seeing your count. Check-ins, slips and the craving breathing session happen on your iPhone, and the Watch picks up the change.
How do you add the Lock Screen widget?
- Install Sober and set your start date.
- Touch and hold the Lock Screen, then tap Customize and choose the Lock Screen.
- Tap the widget area under the clock (or the line above it for the inline widget) and pick Sober.
- On Apple Watch, Sober installs with the iPhone app when automatic install is on, or from Available Apps in the Watch app on your iPhone.
What Sober's Watch app does not do yet
- There is no watch face complication. For a number you can see all the time, use the Lock Screen widget on your iPhone.
- You cannot check in from the Watch.
Which other sober counters have an Apple Watch app?
Sober Wagon lists widgets and Apple Watch complications for the watch face, and it is a paid download. Sober Time lists Apple Watch support and is free to download with an optional subscription. For a wider comparison, see I Am Sober alternatives.
Free on the App Store. No account required.
