Is there a free sobriety tracker that doesn't paywall everything and needs no account?

By Jack Wallner · Last updated

Yes. Sober: Sobriety Day Counter is free to download, needs no account, and keeps the day counter, daily check-in, calendar, bonsai garden, widgets, Apple Watch app and a craving breathing session free. Get Sober on the App Store. The optional Bloom+ upgrade adds extras such as your craving patterns, the full health timeline and a journal. There are no ads, and what you log stays on your iPhone.

Disclosure: Jack Wallner makes Sober. Every detail about Sober below was checked against the app's current build. Other apps are described from their public App Store listings, linked in the sources.

General information, not medical advice. Sober is a wellness tracker, not treatment. If stopping alcohol could put you at risk of withdrawal, talk to a clinician first. In the US, the SAMHSA National Helpline offers free, confidential help around the clock at 1-800-662-4357.

Do you need an account?

No. Sober never asks for an email, a phone number or a name. Setup asks for your start date, what a typical drinking day costs you, and an optional goal date, then shows your counter.

What you log is stored on your iPhone and shared only with your own widgets and Apple Watch. There are no ads and no sign-in. Purchases go through Apple, and RevenueCat checks whether Bloom+ is active; the privacy policy lists exactly what that involves.
