Best family medication tracker app for iPhone (October 2026)
Most medication apps assume you track your own pills, so check how each handles other people. Best for one record per person that a family shares, with no account to start: Elderhub. Best for reminders, interaction warnings and a large user base: Medisafe. Best for scanning labels and logging who gave each dose: ScanMyPills. Best for the simplest private list for several people: My Meds. Best if your family already uses a Hero pill dispenser: Hero.
How we compared. I read each App Store listing and pulled its rating, update date and supported devices from Apple's public lookup on October 12, 2026 (US storefront), and I took price models from the listings' in-app purchase sections. I did not install and test these apps, so every claim about a competitor comes from its listing. None of these apps replaces advice from a doctor or pharmacist. Jack Wallner makes Elderhub: Family Care Log, so read its entries with that in mind.

Ratings, update dates and device support come from Apple's App Store lookup on October 12, 2026. Elderhub is new and has only one rating, so its score says little yet. "Not stated" means the listing does not say.
Elderhub: Family Care Log
Elderhub keeps one current record per person: medications with strength, form, purpose and prescriber, dose history that records who logged each dose, doctor visits, readings such as blood pressure and weight, and an emergency card in large type that you can read offline or share as plain text. Family can be invited by email, link or a code that is easy to read over the phone. It starts on your phone with no account, and every feature is free for one person. The trade-offs: adding more people to a care circle needs the paid Elderhub Plus tier (invited family members stay free), there is no Apple Watch app, the listing does not describe drug-interaction checks or label scanning, and it is new, with a single rating.
Medisafe Medication Management
Medisafe is the established choice, with more than a hundred thousand ratings. Its listing covers reminders, refill reminders, HealthKit measurements, a PDF report for your doctor, drug-to-drug interaction warnings and importing medications from Health Records in the US. It says it syncs a family's pillboxes in one place, and it has an Apple Watch app. It suits people who want the most features in one app. Its premium features are sold as a subscription.
ScanMyPills: Family Caregiver
ScanMyPills is aimed at the same family-caregiver job as Elderhub. Its listing describes a care circle, a one-screen emergency summary with PDF export, label scanning, dose logs that show who gave each dose, an activity log and a way to compare a hospital discharge list with the medications at home. It has few ratings and no Apple Watch app. Choose it if scanning labels matters to you.
Max - Pill reminder
Max is a friendly reminder app with a Share and Care feature that lets family or friends manage reminders together, which its listing pitches for looking after parents from afar. It is a reminder app first, with a playful tone, and it has high ratings. Choose it if reminders are the main need.
My Meds - Personal Meds List
My Meds is the plainest option: multiple profiles for you and your family, photos for each medication, a search of the FDA database, and a PDF export. Its listing says it keeps medication data on your device. That is private, and it also means no sharing between family members, and its description does not mention reminders. It has very few ratings.
Hero: Medication Manager
Hero is the app for a smart pill dispenser that sorts and dispenses medications. Its listing says the app needs an active Hero subscription and a connected dispenser and is not a stand-alone app. It lets a caregiver manage a loved one's medications remotely and sends missed-dose and refill alerts. It makes sense if your family has bought into the dispenser, and not otherwise.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best app to track a parent's medications?
It depends on whether you need sharing. Elderhub keeps one record per person that family can share, with an emergency card and no account to start. Medisafe has more features, including interaction warnings. ScanMyPills adds label scanning.
Can several family members use one medication tracker?
Yes. Elderhub, ScanMyPills and Max describe sharing with family, and Medisafe describes syncing a family's medications in one place. My Meds keeps data on one device.
Is there a free medication tracker for a family?
Elderhub is free for one person, with a paid tier for more people in a care circle. My Meds and Max list no in-app purchases. Check each listing for current terms.
Do these apps replace a pharmacist or doctor?
No. They are organizational tools. They do not diagnose or treat anything, and interaction information should always be confirmed with a pharmacist or doctor.
Do I need to make an account?
Elderhub works without one and asks you to sign in with Apple only to share. For Medisafe, ScanMyPills and Max, the listings do not say.
